Dr. Ian K Smith is the former host of the Emmy Award-winning syndicated daytime talk show, The Doctors and is the former medical correspondent for NBC News and for NewsChannel 4 in New York, where he filed reports for NBC Nightly News and The Today Show.
He transitioned into a New York Times No. 1 bestselling author, penning 21 books between works on medicine and health and crime novels. Dr. Smith attended the 2005 NBCC when he wrote his first novel, The Blackbird Papers. His upcoming book is the upcoming, The Overnights, which releases on May 30th.
In this electrifying third crime novel in the “big, bold, original new series” Harlan Coban finds former Chicago PD detective-turned-private investigator Ashe Cayne navigating two different worlds: the high stakes glitz of television news and the racial divide on the notoriously hard scrabble Chicago streets that place unarmed Black men in mortal jeopardy.
Crafting a world that “recalls vintage Chandler or Hammett” (Kirkus Reviews), Smith flexes his creative muscles as a crackerjack crime fiction writer. In Ashe Cayne, he has created a smart and complex detective who knows both the brightest glamour spots and the darkest corners of the Windy City.
“Smith’s love of Chicago is palpable in his rich depictions of its diversity, vitality, and unique pockets,” says Kirkus Reviews. As timely as the evening news, The Overnights is another riveting installment from a rising star of crime fiction.
